Will the Sun ever explode?

Not really. The sun doesn’t have enough mass to go supernova, but it is slowly using up the fuel which keeps it burning. The Sun has two kinds of gas in it; hydrogen and helium. As it burns the hydrogen inside it, it slowly expands and begins to change color from yellow to red. This process will eventually make the Sun a Red Giant. After the sun reaches the status of Red Giant, it will continue burning the gasses inside of it and will slowly contract, becoming a white dwarf. After this stage, the mass of the Sun will no longer be large enough to hold it together as a star, and it will disperse to form a planetary nebulae. But there is no need to worry at present; the Sun won’t begin to change into a Red Giant for another five billion years or so.
